Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, the internationally famous 16th century complex of 42 chapels, hidden in a beautiful forest.
Wadowice – Kalwaria Zebrzydowska
In 1999 the World Heritage Committee, UNESCO, had unanimously inscribed the Mannerist Architectural and a breathtaking cultural Park landscape complex and Pilgrimage Park on the World Heritage List. From far away you may see the monastery complex of the Bernardine Father with the early baroque church of the Angelic Mother of God. South of the monastery there is the famous Calvary that imitates the topography of Jerusalem, number of chapels, shrines and bridges, altogether over 40 structures built along the paths. As the Pope John Paul II was born in Wadowice close to the Kalwaria, he often walked the Calvary paths and prayed before the marvelous picture of the Zebrzydowska Mother of God. Next we will continue to Wadowice – the birthplace of the Pope John Paul II, visit to the Pope’s house, which is now a museum.
